Upon the initiative of the International Human Rights Commission, represented by the Secretary-General of the IHRC Ambassador Rafal Marcin Wasik, the First Deputy Secretary-General of the IHRC, Ambassador Yurii Kiperman, with assistance of Ambassador in Austria Dr. Ihor Ivanovych Huk, the envoy on the part of Austria, a milestone event was arranged: Historic visit of Patriarch Filaret to the Jewish Community of the city of Dnipro (Ukraine) and the Menorah Jewish Centre. On November 5, 2017 the Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine Filaret and the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine - Kyiv Patriarchate visited the Jewish Community of Dnipro. This visit can be rightly called a historic event. The Chief Rabbi of the city of Dnipro and the region Shmuel Kaminetsky together with Patriarch Filaret, the Chairman of the Regional Council Hlib Pryhunov and the persons accompanying them, including Bishop Simeon of Kryvyi Rih and Dnipro, the President of the International Fund “Solidarity” Oleksandr Petrovskyi and other religious and public leaders took part in a series of cooperative activities including a milestone meeting with the members of the Jewish Community. The main event of the visit of the Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine Filaret and the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine - Kyiv Patriarchate to the Menorah Jewish Centre was meeting with the Jewish members of the Community which was held in the hall “Sinai”. The Jews of Dnipro were standing and applauding when greeting Patriarch Filaret who, together with the Chief Rabbi of the city of Dnipro and the region Shmuel Kaminetsky, entered the hall accompanied by the representatives of the regional and city authorities, famous benevolent persons and philanthropists, leaders of the Jewish Community and the Orthodox Church. The Chief Rabbi of the city of Dnipro and the region Shmuel Kaminetsky in his speech highly appreciated the activity of Patriarch Filaret as one of the prominent leaders of the Ukrainian people, especially in the sphere of strengthening the inter-ethnic and inter-religious peace in Ukraine. In the Menorah Jewish Centre the Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine Filaret delivered the keynote speech which made a tremendous impression on the audience and which, without any doubt, will lead to great public awareness both in Ukraine and on the international stage. Then the Chairman of the Regional Council Hlib Pryhunov, who pays great attention to the spiritual revival in the region, took the floor. Bishop Simeon of Kryvyi Rih and Dnipro noted in his speech that the Menorah Jewish Centre, as well as the Ukrainian Podvorie complex, is an important platform for the dialogue and building up a harmonious society – the basis of the nationally unified and prosperous Ukraine. At the end of the meeting, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine - Kyiv Patriarchate presented the Chief Rabbi of the city of Dnipro and the region with the memorable gift, and the religious leaders exchanged good wishes and blessings. Also, the Commissary of the IHRC, Special Advisor of the Secretary-General of the IHRC in Ukraine Ruslan Gavrylovskyi attended the meeting with special monitoring mission.
